Volunteer workers who come to Chiang Mai for vacation or counseling often stay at guesthouses, which are cheaper than major tourist hotels. While some accommodations are a fair distance from our office, it is usually quite easy to use public transportation to get to the counseling center by telling the driver to "go to the soi behind the old Big C." Expect to pay about 150 baht for a "tuk-tuk" (three-wheel taxi pronounced "duke-duke") or songthaew (red truck taxi) to go across town. The following are low budget accommodations you might want to consider. This list is not intended to slight other providers of accommodations.
Many of our clients stay at the Juniper Tree, a place providing rest for Christian workers needing accommodations outside of their own culture. Here you will stay in rustic bungalows in a garden setting. Many families enjoy the pool and play areas for children. There are 34 bedrooms available. You should contact The Juniper Tree for recommended donations which include your room, 3 meals per day and laundry service. Metered air-conditioning units are available in all rooms for an additional charge. Donations are accepted in Thai baht or with Visa and MasterCard.
